About Malas

Mala beads are a strand of 108 beads used for keeping breath counts which aim to enhance a calmer and more clear, body, mind and spirit.

Malas can also be made of 57 beads or 21 beads for use in shorter meditation. 108 is a significant number for many reasons. Some associate the possibility of enlightenment with taking only 108 breaths a day while in deep meditation. Others connect the number’s significance to the heart chakra (which houses our love and emotional wellness), as there is said to be 108 energy lines leading to it, one of which is believed to be the path to self realization.

First created in India 3000 years ago, mala beads have roots in Hinduism, Buddhism and yoga. The term ‘mala’ is a Sanskrit word for “meditation garland.” Originally, mala beads were used for a special style of meditation called Japa, which means, “to recite.” During Japa meditation you repeat a mantra softly, 108 times, using your mala beads to keep track. A mantra is a word or sound repeated during mediation to help you concentrate. The 109th stone symbolizes gratitude and our connection to the divine. It is a way to say thank-you to all the spiritual teachers who have helped us on our path to enlightenment.

MEASURING YOUR WRIST FOR AN ACCURATE BRACELET SIZE

To find your perfect bracelet size, follow these steps:

STEP 1: Measure your wrist with a flexible tape measure or a strip of paper just below the wrist bone, where you would normally wear the bracelet.
STEP 2: If you are using a plain strip of paper, mark your size with a pen or pencil then use a ruler to measure the length. That would be your wrist size.
STEP 3: To find your bracelet size, just add your wrist size with the appropriate measurements below.

Care Instructions

Jewelry Care

It is normal for natural gemstones stones to fade or change color over time due to body oils and other environmental factors. Though we strive to use the most durable metals, they can also tarnish and fade over time.

To help them retain their color and lustre, please consider the following:

Avoid:

Be careful of chemicals, such as cologne, perfume, creams and cleaning products as they can change, stain or fade your jewelry.
Wearing gemstones in water is not recommended.
Certain stones will fade if left out in the sunlight too long (especially when cleansing and clearing).

Cleaning:

You can use a soft cloth to polish and clean the metals and gemstones. Be careful with commercial products which can harm or scratch your stones.
For pieces with wood you can apply a small amount of coconut oil or sandalwood oil to keep the beads from drying out due to moisture (sweat, humidity, etc.).
